Site Recycle Bin

You probably know by now that Microsoft has released Service Pack 1 for SharePoint 2010 – and with that the most talked about new feature has to be the Site Recycle Bin.
We all know the horror stories from SharePoint 2007 when users would accidently delete a site and ignite a fire storm between the Farm Administrators and DBAs to get the content quickly recovered.
Introducing the Site Recycle Bin!
Now, when users accidentally delete sites they can simply restore them via the Recycle Bin – as if it were merely a document!

We have (or had!) a sub site located at http://SharePointSuresh/sites/testing. Someone has just deleted the testing sub site. Using the new Site Recycle Bin, let’s restore the site:
Click the Site Collection Recycle Bin (Site Actions > Site Settings > Recycle Bin) under Site Collection Administration:

Select “Deleted from end user Recycle Bin”  

Select the checkbox next to the site to restore and click “Restore Selection” from the menu above. Once completed, navigate to the newly restore site:

Managed Path with WildCard and Explicit Inclusion

I thought to put an article on Managed Paths in SharePoint covering their use with Explicit Inclusion and Wildcard Inclusion and also how to use them in Real World scenarios So let’s see what Managed Path is Managed Path: By default when we create Site Collections inside a Web Application in SharePoint they are created with the URL “http://servername:portnumber/site”.  But if we want to have a specific URL other than “/site” we need to create Managed Path. So as an example if we want to create Site Collections for IT and HR Dept and want to have URL's like “http://servername:portnumber/IT” and “http://servername:portnumber/HR” we can do with the help of Managed Paths.
